This hand knotted pile rug is made using 100% natural dyes and handspun wool. This rug is woven with around 90kpi. The lovely tribal design of this richly colored rug was inspired by a Shirvan village carpet. These wider gallery sized runners are referred to as kelleh rugs in the trade. Weaving for the rug takes place in the northern areas of Afghanistan, the home of the Turkmen people. Carpet weaving is perhaps the most essential and revered cultural activity for Turkmen; something which traditionally all women take part in. The art of weaving is reverently passed on from mother to daughter with the weaving of these rugs taking place in individual family homes. Proceeds from the sale of this rug benefit Barakat; helping communities thrive by providing education in rug weaving countries. FREE Shipping and Easy Returns.
