This hand knotted pile rug is made using 100% natural dyes and handspun wool. This rug is woven with around 90kpi. Weaving takes place in the northern areas of Afghanistan, the home of the Turkmen people. Carpet weaving is perhaps the most essential and revered cultural activity for Turkmen; something which traditionally all women take part in. The art of weaving is reverently passed on from mother to daughter with the weaving of these rugs taking place in individual family homes. The whimsical design of this carpet comes from the Khamseh tribe. And this wide and long runner format is known in the trade as a kelleh or as a gallery carpet or gallery runner.
