This hand knotted pile rug is made using 100% natural dyes and handspun wool. This rug is woven with around 90kpi. Weaving takes place in the northern areas of Afghanistan, the home of the Turkmen people. Carpet weaving is perhaps the most essential and revered cultural activity for Turkmen; something which traditionally all women take part in. The art of weaving is reverently passed on from mother to daughter with the weaving of these rugs taking place in individual family homes. This stunning rug with its light blue background color proudly wears the iconic Harshang design. This design is believed to have originated from formal 17th and 18th century caucasian carpets. But the design was latter used in Persian rugs from NW Persia, Bidjar and even in more tribal weavings. This particular carpet was inspired by a NW Persian Harshang.
